Arts Ripple Toolkit
Margy Waller, Topos Partnership
Margy Waller, a Senior Fellow at Topos Partnership led the initiative to develop illustrations for the Arts Ripple toolkit. The toolkit of materials is a resource for arts organizations across the country as they think about communications for broad public support of the arts. The project included a cover image showing arts and music activities in a variety of communities. The smaller illustrations needed to work independently, because the client wanted the flexibility to use each illustration on different sections of the toolkit. We also developed an icon that the designer used as a design element and a color palette that was applied throughout the toolkit to make it graphically cohesive.
The project began with gathering information from the client, sharing sketches of ideas then working back and forth until we reached the strongest artwork to communicate their message. We use this approach for both the icon and the series of illustrations.
Project requirements:
Make an overall image to be used to package materials and the organizing idea.
The image needed to be made up of smaller parts to be used independently.
Draw artwork to represent city, suburban, and rural settings along with diverse people interacting with each other.
Develop an icon to represent the concept of “arts ripple”. Arts ripple means by having art happening within your town or city, it makes your community stronger and reaches people far and wide in a positive way.
Provide a color palette derived from my artwork that the project designer utilized to inform the look and feel of the toolkit.
